Flybear 2 Channel

23 March 2017

Bought this but haven't arrive.
Thang gave this Flybear.
2 channel, collective throttle for ascension/descension, differential throttle for left and right yawing.

Thang gave the white Flybear because I was interested and he had kept one un-used for several months. I brought it to the field and flew it once, but then I couldn't charge the enclosed cell.

I suspected weak cells in the transmitter, so I tried charging with USB at home (instead of from the transmitter) and it didn't work. I tried a different USB charging cable (Cheerson's) and it still didn't work. I switched the receiver unit on and off, before and after plugging in of charging cable, sometimes I get the motor to spin backwards, sometimes at full throttle forward, but I just couldn't get the transmitter to bind with the receiver.

I cut open the plane and removed the cell. I soldered connectors to the cell and receiver unit. I charged the cell directly, plug it to the receiver and it works.

Connectors soldered to cell and receiver unit.
With the hatch made in the plane, I tried flying with 260 mah. I prefer the supplied 150 mah. The 260 mah moved the CG forward, it flew faster but the flights were less enjoyable. This is probably because I didn't trim the elevator to the new CG since I wanted to continue using the 150mah supplied cell. Flyers have advised on Banggood to add nose weight but I found that as supplied, it's already acceptable (slight stalling flight at zero throttle, level flight at low throttle, climbing flight with nose up attitude at high throttle).

The range is too short, and then the plane will reduce power and come down when it went out of range. Waving the transmitter or running after the plane went out of range didn't help and switching the transmitter off and back on again didn't help either (transmitter's red LED goes to flickering mode). Well, perhaps I wasn't near enough. When I retrieved the plane, the transmitter's LED is solidly lit all the time I walked to the plane and I can continue to fly.

I googled but couldn't find out the radio protocol of the transmitter. I could try AFHDS because that would be good for me. But then, I should not look for a solution and invent the problem.

When my order arrives, I hope to use the new transmitter for the 2 planes, supposing that the advertised upgraded range of 120m is with the transmitter and not the receiver in the new rtf plane.

This plane looks like a toy because the dihedral is great and a simpler V-dihedral would be more associated with commercial planes. How about DH88 Comet, P38 Lightning, Boeing/Airbus?

Multiple Aerial Drops

3 March 2017

This post could have a more direct title but for the time we live in. Here are 2 ideas to dispense multiple "tubes/rods" for rc fly-by practices.
(L) Reciprocating dispenser, (R) Linear displacement dispenser

This will be popular with the guys if I do up a sample.

Using household or readily available items for modelling purpose

2 March 2017

Many common household or readily available objects can be used in our modeling quest.
A collection of ideas for making joints.
Uses of bamboo pushrods, plastic pieces, strings, pins, screws and heatshrink sleeves when connecting pushrods/pull-pull to horns.
